Shaping a better future for all New Zealanders

Sustainability at Genesis

Taking action for the good of Kiwi families and businesses

Sustainability has never mattered more. We’re committed to stepping up and caring for the environment, our team, customers and the communities in which we operate. For us, it’s about meeting the current needs of NZ while not compromising future generations. We’re making progress... but know there's more to do.

We’ve committed to reduce our environmental impact through Science Based Targets and aligned our initiatives with five Sustainability Development Goals. Hear from Courtney Simpson, our Group Manager of Sustainability, why we chose to work with the Science Based Targets initiative.

Goals to transform our world

The Sustainable Development Goals, developed by the United Nations in 2015, are a blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice. Genesis have chosen to align their capabilities with five of the 17 goals - Affordable and Clean Energy, Decent Work and Economic Growth, Reduce Inequalities, Climate Action and Partnerships for the Goals.

Some of these capabilities are below but you can see more here.

Creating people opportunities

Our initiatives create job opportunities from fixed term to full time employment along with internships that provide meaningful job experience.

Carbon emission reduction

Our Future-gen programme is to find opportunities to reduce emissions while still providing reliable and affordable electricity.

Duck tales

We work with DOC to secure the future of one of our most endangered native birds, the whio.
