Energy Plus plan migration

We’re retiring your current prompt payment discount plan and you'll move onto our open-term Energy Plus plan. For more information about this, please refer to the FAQs below or call us on 0800 300 400.

Why does the new Energy Plan not include a prompt payment discount?

A Government-commissioned review of the electricity industry recommended changes to the plans retailers offer, to make things fairer for all customers. As a result, we’ve reviewed our offers and will no longer offer prompt payment discounts in the same way we used to.

What’s the difference between my current plan and my Energy Plus new plan?

Your current plan may includes a prompt payment discount. Your new plan doesn't include this. Instead, your new plan includes a change to your current rates and offers a new range of discounts, depending on how you pay and receive your bill. Under the Energy Plus Plan a late payment fee of $14 applies if you don’t pay your bill on time. For full details visit Energy Plus terms.

How do I get moved to the new Energy Plus plan?

You don’t need to do anything; we'll look after the change for you.

When will I be moved to the Energy Plus plan for electricity and natural and reticulated gas?

You’ll be moved to Energy Plus after the 30 day notice period. The exact timing depends on your billing cycle. You may receive one or two more prompt payment discount bills before receiving your first Energy Plus bill.

When will I be moved to the Energy Plus plan for bottled gas?

As with any changes to your plan, we’re providing 30 days’ notice. You’ll be moved to Energy Plus after this notice period. You may receive one or two more bills and/or an interim bill before your first Energy Plus bill. If you’ve already paid your current plan bottle rental in advance, we’ll credit the unused portion back to you from the date the new Energy Plus plan comes into effect.

Why might I receive an interim bottled gas bill?

When we moved you to your new Energy Plus plan, we had to finalise your monthly bottle rental on your old plan and this charge was for the full month. The interim bill takes into account the monthly rental that you paid in advance.

How do I receive my new rates in Energy Plus?

You don’t need to do anything. The new rates will automatically be applied on your Energy Plus bill. Depending on your billing cycle, you may receive one or two more prompt payment discount bills before receiving your first Energy Plus bill.

Why aren’t customers in the Aurora Energy network in Dunedin, Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes able to take up a fixed-term offer right now?

The Aurora Energy lines company is about to undertake a programme of works of essential maintenance and upgrades in the region, so new pricing for network charges will be announced and implemented from April 2021. This means the price you pay for electricity will increase. As a result, the fixed-term option of the Energy Plus plan is not available for your network Aurora Energy. Once this becomes available we’ll be in touch.

Who is Aurora Energy?

Different components make up your electricity bill, of which one is network costs. Aurora Energy owns and manages the electricity network assets that transport the energy you use to your home. Aurora Energy provides services to customers in Dunedin, Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes.

Aurora Energy is New Zealand’s seventh largest electricity network by customer connections, supplying electricity to 90,000 homes, farms and businesses in Dunedin, Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes. Aurora Energy Limited is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dunedin City Holdings Limited, owned by the Dunedin City Council.

Why aren’t reticulated LPG customers able to take up a fixed-term offer right now?

The fixed-term option of the Energy Plus plan is not available for reticulated LPG. Once this becomes available, we’ll be in touch.

How long is the Energy Plus fixed-term contract?

The fixed-term contract is for 12 months. If you choose this, you’ll receive a 3% discount and fixed pricing for 12-months from the start of your contract.

You will also receive a $50 bill credit per fuel type and this will appear on your first Energy Plus bill. Depending on your billing cycle, you may receive one or two more prompt payment discount bills (under your old plan) before receiving your first Energy Plus bill. If you cancel this Energy Plus agreement before your 12-month term ends, you may be charged an early termination fee of $150 per fuel type.

What happens after my Energy Plus fixed-term plan expires?

Following the expiry of your Fixed Term, your Fixed Term will no longer apply, and you will be charged the standard applicable rates at the time. All other Energy Plus plan terms and conditions will remain the same. You can view our current prices here. When this happens, you’ll receive a letter or email advising you of your new your prices for an additional 12 months under the Energy Plus plan.

What happens if I’m on an Energy Plus 12-month fixed-term plan and move house?

In most cases you can take your contract with you to your new property. But your rates may need to be revised and you could be moved off the contract without an early termination fee. Please give our team a call on 0800 300 400 and we can help make your move as smooth as possible.

On the second page of your bill, you’ll now see a breakdown of all the new discounts associated with your Energy Plus plan. This includes the 1% eBilling (receiving your bills by email) discount, 1% auto-pay credit card discount or 2% auto-pay direct debit discount, 5% if you have dual fuel (electricity and natural/reticulated LPG/bottled gas with Genesis) and 3% discount for a 12-month fixed-term contract.
