Ideas to cut down your power use:

  • make one person responsible for managing power saving
  • regularly maintain equipment, e.g. clean out filters in heating or cooling units
  • switch off TVs and monitor screens when you’re not using them, or install timers to switch them off automatically
  • insulate ceilings and floors in areas you heat and cool
  • wrap your hot water boiler and piping with pipe lagging
  • open windows and blinds to make the best use of natural light
  • install movement-sensitive sensors and timers so lights only come on when you need them
  • change to LED light bulbs
  • turn off computers and other equipment when you’re not using them
  • check oven and fridge seals to make sure energy isn’t escaping.
