When to order refills

  • Check the indicator on a regular basis. If using for heating, check every second day during winter.
  • Check the indicator 12 hrs after its turned red (without any appliances turned on).
  • If it's still red after then you need to order a refill.
LPG meter
*May be green or clear when there is gas

How does it work?

One cylinder (primary) provides the main supply and the other (reserve) is a backup that provides extra gas when required.LPG primary tank
When the primary cylinder is empty, the regulator changes over to the reserve cylinder and the indicator turns red.

LPG secondary tank
Increased usage or cold weather can cause a drop in cylinder pressure causing a temporary changeover (red indicator). If the primary bottle is not keeping up with demand it will call on the reserve to help deliver the amount of gas needed.

LPG Bottled Gas Tips and Advice

What's the easiest way to order a gas bottle refill?

The quickest way to reorder your gas bottle is through our Genesis Energy Mobile App. If you are an existing Genesis Energy bottled gas customer, the App allows you to simply order your bottled gas anytime, it's easy, tap-tap and you're done!

How can I make my bottled gas delivery go smoothly?

Please make sure trees are trimmed for the delivery truck, the access way is clear, and the ground is firm and non-slippery as the bottles are heavy. You don't need to be at home for the delivery but if you have any potential delivery issues like dogs or locked gates, please provide us with this information. We will give you a heads up the night before we expect to deliver your gas bottles with a text message. Deliveries will not be made if there is a health and safety risk to the delivery drivers. If you'd prefer that we don't notify you ahead of your delivery via a text message, please contact us to advise.

What happens when I order bottled gas?

Most homes have two gas bottles so when the first bottle is empty, you order a new one. We exchange the empty bottle for a full one delivered within an average of four working days. Your automatic regulator switches supply to the full bottle so that you still have gas while you wait for your order. When you first order bottled gas from us, for safety reasons you must order two gas bottles.

How do I know that my bottled gas has been delivered?

When a bottle has been delivered there will be a delivery card left in your letterbox or on your bottles telling you when and how many bottles have been delivered.

Which LPG value plan would suit my home?

The bottled gas bottle calculator is based on average household bottled gas usage. Actual consumption will be subject to other factors such as, how many and how often appliances are used.

What do I do if a bottled gas appliance doesn't work?

Firstly, check the regulator on top of the bottles to see if your bottles are empty. If there's still gas in at least one of the bottles, check to make sure your bottles are turned on and check your appliances for basic errors such as a pilot light having gone off.  If there's no obvious explanation, call your gas fitter.

What to do in a Gas Emergency

If you suspect your gas appliances are faulty or leaking (even though you may not be able to smell gas), immediately turn off your gas supply at the meter or gas bottles and contact a registered Gas Fitter (who can be easily found in the Yellow Pages under "Gas Fitter").

  • To turn off your metered gas supply, turn the valve handle to Horizontal (level with the ground). You may need a spanner to do this
  • To turn off your LPG gas bottle supply, turn the valve clockwise until it closes completely.
  • If the smell is coming from or around your gas meter or bottles, turn them off immediately and call Genesis Energy on 0800 300 400 and press option 1. Remember call us from a neighbouring property if possible as your property may be unsafe to remain in.

Why do I have more than one gas bottle?

One bottle provides the main supply and the other provides extra gas when needed due to increased demand from your appliances. It's important that all gas bottles are left turned on for your appliances to work efficiently.

Even though both bottles are turned on, you will not run out of gas any quicker, as your appliance will not continuously draw gas from both bottles.
