At Genesis Energy, we like to make your life easier. That's why we're upgrading your old electricity meter to a Genesis Energy Advanced Meter.

We believe our Advanced Meter is the best metering technology available. It enables us to provide an improved metering and billing service to our customers. So, here's what's in it for you.

With our Advanced Meter there are no surprises

Once our Advanced Meter is installed, you'll say goodbye to estimated readings, estimated bills and visits from meter readers^.

Instead, what your new Advanced Meter tells us you've used is exactly what you'll see on your bill. And if you want, you can still check your own meter reading by looking at the electronic display on your Advanced Meter. Better still, you will not be charged for the upgrade of your old meter.

^We may need to visit your property for maintenance or an audit after your Advanced Meter is installed.

Next steps

We started upgrading meters in February 2009 and have now installed over 366,654. We'll be in touch with our residential and business customers to let them know when their property will have an Advanced Meter installed. So, you'll receive a letter from us when we're in your area.

Advanced Meter upgrades will take up to five years to complete for all our customers. Here's a list of the suburbs and regions to get Genesis Energy's Advanced Meters - we'll update this list when we confirm the next regions to have our Advanced Meters installed.

Genesis Energy's Advanced Meter can accommodate developments in technologies to meet individual customer requirements in the future, as opposed to forcing costs on to all customers now, for technology that might not be used.

We are also looking at better ways for you to see your energy consumption and allow you to take control of your electricity costs. This information will enable you to make informed decisions about how you use electricity and ways to save on your electricity bill.

So, with our Advanced Meter technology, you'll start getting the following benefits and more to come in the future:

  • Monthly actual reads
  • No more meter readers visiting your property^
  • Automated actual reads when you move house
  • Disconnection and reconnection services
  • New pricing plans

What you need to do

For some customers, we will need access to your property to install this new meter and we'll be in touch to arrange a suitable time for this meter upgrade to take place. You will need to turn off all sensitive electrical equipment at the power point before your appointment time.

The great thing about our Advanced Meter is that once it's installed you don't need to do a thing. We just ask that you leave the mains switch on to allow automated readings of your meter*.

*Switch off your mains switch only for essential maintenance or in the case of an emergency. Should you wish to turn your power off at the mains switch for long periods of time, please contact Genesis Energy to organise the energy to be turned off at the meter. Residential customers call 0800 300 400 and Business customers call 0800 600 900.
