National Whio Recovery Project
Genesis Energy and the Department of Conservation have partnered together to secure the future of one our most endangered native birds, the Whio.
The Genesis Energy Whio Recovery Programme partnership is funding a five-year management programme for Whio. It will enable the implementation of a national recovery plan that will double the number of fully operational secure Whio breeding sites throughout the country, and boost pest control efforts.
The Tongariro National Trout Centre
Genesis Energy is a primary sponsor of the Tongariro National Trout Centre which is jointly managed by the Trout Centre Society and the Department of Conservation. A primary aim of the Trout Centre is to educate New Zealanders (especially students) about fresh water ecology and environmental sustainability.
The Waikato RiverCare aims to implement a sustainable programme of action to plant native vegetation on the banks of the lower Waikato River. Genesis Energy is a founding member along with other businesses and community groups. Covering approximately 120km of riverbank the goal is to enhance up to 4 km's of riverbank per year.
