Developed by Genesis Energy, the Schoolgen programme aims to help teachers bring energy and energy efficiency to life in a fun, exciting way for students. Online resources enable schools nationwide to use the teaching resources about electricity generation, solar energy, photovoltaic (PV) systems and energy efficiency and Schoolgen educators work with teachers to help integrate the resources into the curriculum.

Graeme Dingle Foundation

Genesis Energy has teamed up with the Graeme Dingle Foundation (formerly known as the Foundation for Youth Development) to support the roll out of Kiwi Can programs in Huntly primary schools. The Graeme Dingle Foundation is a leader in the field of youth development and run several, proven programs that lift the skills, self-confidence, motivation and achievements of young New Zealanders aged 5 - 18 years. Genesis Energy Hillary Challenge

Secondary Schools Hillary Challenge Logo - Genesis Energy NZ

The Genesis Energy Hillary Challenge is without a doubt the toughest adventure competition for high school students. Held in May each year, 12 regional finalists compete in a 5-day series of outdoor adventure challenges, including a 2-day rogaine style wilderness expedition and a multisport race. The event is held at the Hillary Outdoor Education Centre in Tongariro National Park.

Hillary Step

The Hillary Step programme enables students from low decile schools to participate in a week-long outdoor education programme aimed at giving them valuable life-skills. Genesis Energy funding is primarily used to assist students from schools located within the Tongariro, Waikaremoana and Huntly Power Scheme areas.

Books in Homes

Books in Homes aims to encourage reading and targets students in low socio-economic areas where the children are more likely to come from bookless homes. Genesis Energy supports the Books in Homes programme at Huntly Primary School and Huntly West Primary School.

Taupo for Tomorrow

The Taupo for Tomorrow programme is an educational programme run in conjunction with the Department of Conservation and the Tongariro Trout Centre Society at the National Trout Centre in Turangi. The focus of the programme is on environmental sustainability with a specific focus on the importance of protecting the fresh water habitat.

Aoraki Bound

Aoraki Bound is a 20-day programme which brings together Ngai Tahu tikanga culture with the learning and development expertise of Outward Bound to foster personal development and build leadership. Genesis Energy is sharing the sponsorship with Bank of New Zealand.

Marae-based Trades Training Scheme

The Nga Kanohi Marae o Wairarapa Marae-based Trades Training Scheme works with young people from marae in the lower North Island, teaching skills such as building and carpentry, allowing them to gain NCEA credits as well as personal and professional skills. This provides valuable grounding for careers in the allied trades or building industries. As they learn, participants are also contributing the maintenance of buildings and facilities in their communities.

ElectroCity

ElectroCity is an online game that allows users to build and manage their own virtual towns and cities, making important decisions and learning about energy generation, environmental management and many more practical and relevant concepts. Teacher resources are available on the site so teachers can incorporate the game into classroom lessons.
