Genesis is a national retailer and offers electricity across New Zealand. We sell natural gas in the North Island and bottled gas (LPG) throughout the country.
Genesis is one of New Zealand's largest electricity and gas retailers, supplying energy through our two retail brands – Genesis and Frank* Energy – to approximately 480,000 customers across New Zealand.
Genesis staff are located across the country. Our head office is in Auckland, we have a customer contact centre, customer experience and support teams offices in Hamilton. Genesis owns and operates power stations at Huntly, Tokaanu, Rangipo, Waikaremoana, South Wairarapa and Lake Tekapo.

Huntly Power Station, Tongariro Power Scheme, Waikaremoana Power Scheme, Hau Nui Wind Farm and the Tekapo Power Scheme. We also have a power purchase agreement to take 100% of the electricity generated by the Waipipi Wind Farm in Taranaki.

Genesis owns a 46% share of the Kupe Oil and Gas Field and has contracted for 100% of the natural gas from the field. Genesis also has a range of gas supply agreements with most of New Zealand's gas producing or supplying companies.
Huntly Power Station is the largest electricity generation facility in New Zealand by capacity. It is made up of two modern gas fired and two gas/coal fired generating units.

Genesis is creating a range of generation options for commercially-driven development. In 2021 the Waipipi Wind Farm in Taranki came online, and we’ve announced power purchase agreements for the new Kaiwaikawe Wind Farm in Northland and the Tauhara geothermal plant near Taupō. We have also committed to building 500MW of grid-scale solar capacity.

Marc England is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Genesis.
Marc joined Genesis in May 2016. He is responsible for the leadership, strategic direction and management of all its business interests.
Prior to joining Genesis, Marc was Executive General Manager New Energy at AGL Energy in Australia and also previously held the role of Group Head of Strategy there. Marc has 12 years’ experience in the sector across three markets having also worked at British Gas, a subsidiary of Centrica Plc, in the UK from 2007.
Earlier in his career Marc held a number of Corporate Finance roles at Ford Motor Company and prior to that was a Petroleum Engineer for Halliburton Energy Services in the Middle East and United States. Marc has a Master of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering and European Studies and an MBA.
