Warning: Tekapo River flows

Lake Tekapo is above its Maximum Control Level due to an outage at the Tekapo Power Scheme. Water is flowing from Lake Tekapo along the natural Tekapo River bed and river flows may increase rapidly in response to weather events, such as Cyclone Gita.

Please take care when accessing river areas in case of flow changes, do not risk crossing any river on foot or in a vehicle if there is a risk of being inundated or stranded if levels rise.
