Waikaremoana Power Scheme

The Waikaremoana Power Scheme (138MW) in northern Hawke’s Bay consists of three power stations fed from Lake Waikaremoana. The Tuai, Piripaua and Kaitawa power stations were completed between 1929 and 1948. The scheme was an early government one in the North Island, being second only to Mangahao in Horowhenua.
