Q: Will I always be able to enter a meter reading?
A: There are three rules used to quantify whether you can enter a meter reading to create an instant bill.
  1. Your meter must have been read by a meter reader within the last six months
  2. You mustn’t be scheduled for disconnection or a final meter reading
  3. There mustn’t be a reading that was taken by a meter reader, already in the system waiting to be billed

Q: How does a Controlled Meter work?
A: Electricity is available for around 16 - 21 hours supply (19 hours average) for a controlled meter. This meter type is usually used for hot water and applies to:
  • fixed wired appliances
  • hot water cylinders
  • under floor heating
  • storage heaters

This meter type applies to appliances which have some thermal storage capacity and do not require 24 hr supply of electricity to function.

It is not suitable for appliances that may need to be used at any stage of the day i.e. an oven.

Controlled meters are generally used in conjunction with the Anytime option. Meaning there are effectively two meters, one for 24 supply (lights, power points etc) and another for hot water. This works out cheaper.

The supply to loads through controlled meters is carried out by the network company who operate the relay on your switch board by sending a high frequency signal across their network. This system is also used to control equipment such as streetlights. Please be aware not all meter types are available in all areas.

Q: How do you calculate my usage?
A: We looked at how many units you have been billed for over the last 12 months and from this we recommend the best pricing plan for you. If we have less than 12 months of consumption history for your current home, we will estimate the remaining months based on your current usage.

Our recommendation is based on the assumption that your consumption patterns remain the same over the next 12 months and does not include any seasonal variations.
