Q: Where do you sell your energy products?
A: Genesis Energy is a national retailer and offers electricity across New Zealand. It sells natural gas in the North Island and bottled LPG throughout the country.


Q: Where do you operate?
A: Genesis Energy has a Customer Contact Centre and other customer experience support offices in Hamilton. It owns and operates power stations at Huntly, Tokaanu, Rangipo, Waikaremoana, South Wairarapa and Lake Tekapo. Its head office is in Greenlane, Auckland, and a Corporate Affairs team is based in Wellington.


Q: How many customers do you have?
A: 650,000 electricity, gas and LPG customers.


Q: What power stations do you own?
A: Huntly Power Station, Tongariro Power Scheme, Waikaremoana Power Scheme, Hau Nui Wind Farm and the Tekapo Power Scheme.


Q: Where do you get your gas from?
A: Genesis Energy owns a 31% share of the Kupe Oil and Gas Field and has contracted for 100% of the natural gas from the field. Genesis Energy also has a range of gas supply agreements with most of New Zealand’s gas producing or supplying companies.


Q: How big is Huntly Power Station?
A: Huntly Power Station sits on a 71ha site and has six operating units: four 250MW dual fuel coal and gas units, one 400MW combined cycle gas turbine and one 48MW open cycle gas turbine.


Q: What new generation plans do you have?
A: Genesis Energy is creating a range of generation options for commercially-driven development. The most current work is focused on gaining resource consents for the Castle Hill Wind Farm project in northern Wairarapa. The company is also continuing feasibility work on the Slopedown Wind Farm prospect in Southland. Other wind, hydro, geothermal and thermal options are being investigated.
