Educational Initiatives

Genesis Energy places huge importance on education and has a multitude of educational programmes that assist local communities, teachers, students and schools.

Educational initiatives we have in place:

Tree People

Tree People is a website for New Zealanders of all ages who want to help the environment. Joining Tree People reveals simple, everyday things you can do to help the environment and do your bit for climate change.

You can adopt a virtual tree and pledge to do small things like turning your TV off at the wall. Helping the environment helps your tree grow. And when you encourage others to make changes too your tree grows even more. You can form your own group of friends, class mates or work colleagues and as your tree grows taller you can give your friends‘ trees virtual gifts.

Like all the best things in life, it's simple but effective. And it only takes a moment to join up and adopt a tree. You can start at treepeople.co.nz.

ElectroCity

ElectroCity is an online game that allows users to build and manage their own virtual towns and cities, making important decisions and learning about energy generation, environmental management and many more practical and relevant concepts. There is plenty of real-world information built into the game and players can put that information to good use in their own cities. Teacher resources are available on the site so teachers can incorporate the game into classroom lessons.

Schoolgen

Schoolgen is a programme developed by Genesis Energy to educate New Zealand children about solar energy.

Genesis Energy has so far provided 42 schools in New Zealand with a two-kilowatt photovoltaic system (solar panels).

But schools don’t need the solar panels to be able to use the programme. Every school in New Zealand can join the Schoolgen community by visiting the website, downloading the free teaching resources and using the real-time electricity generation data from the solar panels.

Check out www.schoolgen.co.nz to see how much electricity the schools are generating and for more information.

Through Schoolgen Genesis Energy has helped save more than 22 tonnes of CO2 from being emitted into the atmosphere and generated more than 100,000kWh of electricity purely from the energy of the sun. That is enough electricity for approximately 10 average New Zealand homes for a year!
