Open Conversations and Open for Business
In 2009 Genesis Energy has split its Annual Report into two sections - ‘Open Conversations’ is an annual review of our operations and a sustainability report. Open Conversations discusses how Genesis Energy is responding to the ever-changing world.
‘Open for Business’ contains the full Financial Statements and Notes. It also contains Statutory Information. Both documents are interactive and fully searchable. You can view online, print, download or email this document.
Genesis Energy has participated in the internationally-recognised Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) to assist with our sustainability reporting. Full disclosure of our approach to the GRI framework is contained within the ‘Open Conversations’ Annual Review.

Preparing for the Future of Energy
|
New Zealand's energy industry faces two major challenges: an increasing demand for energy on the one hand and the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions on the other. As the country's largest thermal generator, Genesis Energy shares part of the responsibility for meeting these challenges and, in the case of reducing emissions, can make the largest difference in the stationary energy sector.
The 2008 Annual Report addresses these issues and reports on the company's financial, social and environmental performance in the 2007/08 reporting year. |

The Whole Story
|
For us, the issue of energy is no longer an isolated topic. It is now a pivotal component in the much broader story of sustainability, human responsibility and changing economies. We are clear that the decisions we make today will create an indelible mark on tomorrow, affecting the environment in which we live at both a global and local level. So, in this report, we aim to tell the whole story from top to bottom, highlighting where the challenges and issues are and defining what we need to do and what we have underway to positively manage our footprint and impact. |

Corporate Social Responsibility Report
To create an ideal world, we have to work to a set of clear ideals. Our own ethos says we're responsible, that we're questioning the way things have traditionally worked and thinking of new and better way to get things done. We've already started on that path, but we've got a long way to go. So here's what we've done and what we've planned.

Doing business. Getting things done
We are doing business. As the industry's largest energy retailer, we have to lead by example. We are charged with that responsibility. But what examples are there of Genesis Energy leading from the front, and where have we achieved results that will resonate positively beyond our current financial year?
In the 2005 annual report, we show what we have done and why. Across the length and breadth of our activities, projects underway form part of the bigger energy picture. They play a part in positively influencing tomorrow's energy supply.

Understanding is one thing. Acting is another
The energy sector for many it equates to uncertainty of supply, lengthy resource planning and pricing structures that continue to be unpredictable. So with such a charged industry backdrop, what is Genesis Energy doing?
We realise we not only need to demonstrate a real appreciation of the issues facing our industry, but to back it up with decisive action to deliver what consumers want. Understanding that it is action that makes the difference for all New Zealanders - today and tomorrow.

Genesis Energy. On a mission to become New Zealand’s preferred energy company.
As New Zealand’s energy industry continued to grow and mature, so too did Genesis Energy. The company had undergone a major transformation; from humble beginnings in 1999, when the company provided back-up contracts to other retailers and with only 155,000 customers of its own, Genesis Energy had grown into one of New Zealand’s largest energy retailers.
The reliability of Genesis Energy's diverse generation assets of thermal, hydro, wind and co-generation provided a backbone to New Zealand’s power supply. The 2002 annual report reflected on the company’s achievements not only in terms of financial performance, asset management and sustainable development, but by measuring customer satisfaction and wider involvement in the community.
2001
Diversity. The state or quality of being different or varied; a point of difference.
As New Zealand’s largest energy retailer, Genesis Energy was committed to maintaining diversity across all business activities. Diversity in generation meant that customers were guaranteed a reliable source of supply from the company’s thermal, hydro, wind and biomass sites. Diversity also maintained the quality of products and services and made the company more competitive, while supporting the communities in which it operated.
Genesis Energy valued the impact diversity had on the business, particularly being committed to building strong relationships in order to provide reliable and efficient energy supplies and services to all customers, regardless of their geographical situation.
