Whio - Saving New Zealand's Blue Duck
Genesis Energy in association with The Central North Island Blue Duck Trust and Forest & Bird are proud to support the new book "Whio - Saving New Zealand’s Blue Duck". Whio tells the story of how a dedicated group of scientists, field workers and volunteers have set about saving the Blue Duck. The book combines a natural history of the birds with an illustrated history of human interaction, as well as a social history of the Blue Duck then and now.
Heavily illustrated with superb photographs from some of New Zealand’s leading wildlife photographers, this is an inspiring, delightful book.

Why Genesis Energy and Blue Duck?
Genesis Energy has had a long association with DOC, Forest & Bird and other conservation groups. The goal of these associations was to come to a better understanding of the effects of hydro power scheme operations on Blue Duck and their habitat.
Through the Tongariro Power Scheme resource consent process, a number of mitigations were agreed including downstream minimum flows and the contribution towards the establishment of the Central North Island Blue Duck Trust.
The Trust provides funding for initiatives to enhance, protect and promote blue Duck populations. This book was published to assist in raising the awareness of the plight of the Blue Duck to the New Zealand public.
Genesis Energy’s input into this book acknowledges the company’s ongoing commitment to the protection of Blue Duck.
