Consent application lodged for Castle Hill Wind Farm

Genesis Energy lodged its application on Monday 1 August for resource consents for the Castle Hill Wind Farm, a significant development proposed for northern Wairarapa.

The Castle Hill Wind Farm involves up to 286 wind turbines with a potential nominal capacity of up to 860MW of renewable electricity generation. The electricity produced is potentially equivalent to that consumed each year by up to 370,000 average New Zealand households.

Genesis Energy Chief Executive Albert Brantley said the Company is developing a portfolio of new electricity generation options which, if commercially viable, will create development opportunities to grow and renew its generation assets over the coming decade.

Approval for the Castle Hill Wind Farm project is required under the Resource Management Act 1991 and the relevant councils’ Regional and District Plans. The Castle Hill Wind Farm site lies across the boundary between two regional councils (Greater Wellington and Manawatu - Wanganui (Horizons)) and two district councils (Masterton and Tararua).
